Phone and media addictions are cases of dependency in which a person spends significant time on their smartphones or social media despite this resulting in health issues. In such cases the relation to smartphones becomes problematic and the need to use them becomes compulsive which can interfere with one’s life.

The major factor that contributes to this type of addiction is the escape that these technologies provide. A person on social media can receive an unnatural amount of attention from strangers through likes, comments, and other interactions which can trigger the release of dopamine.
