Burnout and chronic stress is a term that is used for physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion. The term is most commonly associated with work but can manifest in many areas of life, for example; raising a family, being a full-time caretaker, dealing with chronic pain or illness.

If you are working excessive hours, not taking enough time to sleep, eat or rest, if you feel under pressure or give more than is humanly possible to a particular task or role, at some point your mind and body will ‘stop’ and you will be dealing with burnout. Burnout is sometimes connected to a deeper internal belief of some kind, which in turn causes the individual to try and live up to impossible standards. For example, a belief that ‘without me, things will fall apart, I am the only one who can do this task’ or ‘I have to do this to please others to be accepted’.
