Treatment for DEPRESSION
When do you have depression? The feeling of sadness is a normal emotion that our nervous system senses during times of grief such as experiencing a breakup, losing a family member or a friend, getting fired from a job, and even when watching a sad movie. Sadness that is associated with a certain life event or particular trigger is known to fade away with time and is usually experienced in waves with feelings of happiness and positivity intermixing with them. Although depression does include sadness, it differs drastically from it in terms of complexity, severity, impact, and duration.
Depression is a mood disorder characterized by a strong and almost constant feeling of sadness or loss. It negatively affects your feelings, actions, thoughts, mood, and can stand in the way of day to day activities and daily life. Feelings of worthlessness and loss of severe loss can paralyze a person mentally and emotionally. Moreover, the prolonged absence of happy chemicals majority damages the brain and the mental state of a person. The recent increase in awareness regarding the disorder has removed many misconceptions about it, yet many people still underestimate the seriousness of depression.
There are various types of depression including unipolar depression, biological depression, manic depression, seasonal affective disorder, dysthymia, etc. Because a person with depression is constantly sad, he or she may not realize that are suffering and that happiness is achievable. Sadness and low self-esteem become their default state. Luckily Depression is among the most treatable of mental disorders.
Here at THE BALANCE Depression Luxury Rehab & Recovery Treatment Center, we have a resourceful number of therapies that we integrate in a program based on the specific disorder at hand. Our team uses a combination of psychotherapy and medication. With the help of CBT, we help recognize distorted/negative patterns of thought with the goal of altering thoughts and behaviours to react to challenges in a more positive manner. Psychotherapy can also involve family members to build a supportive circle around the individual. Furthermore, we will help you build daily habits that will create positive feelings.
Depression and mood disorders are mental health disorders and can be set off by a range of triggers. This includes physical illness, trauma, and experience dating to early childhood, bereavement, family issues, lifestyle, and other life-changing events. Depression should not be confused with sadness, as depression is a prolonged illness that results in a lack of motivation, and a continuous low ‘depressed’ mood, it can be a very debilitating illness.
Symptoms of depression include excessive sleeping or not being able to sleep at all, no energy or motivation, isolating over or under eating, loss of libido, drinking excessive alcohol or taking other drugs, crying a lot, having low self-worth, low self-esteem, feeling like there is no point or purpose in life, feeling empty inside, not wanting to live, having suicidal thoughts. Sometimes people can ‘appear’ happy on the outside and ‘wear’ a mask in front of others, but when alone the above symptoms are present.
Depression, as with all disorders, can affect anyone from any walk of life, cultural or social background, for example, people who seem to have everything going for them and all aspects of their lives on the surface appear perfect, however, within them is a ‘void’ of emptiness and constant sadness is experienced. Depression cannot be helped by being told to ‘cheer up’ it is a medical condition, which requires understanding and empathy and often medical and therapeutic intervention. The good news is depression can be treated, in the short term with prescribed medication and rest may be all that is needed, but for lasting, change depression needs deeper exploration and responds successfully to counselling and psychotherapy. Many ‘symptoms’ can be identified when someone is depressed and recognizing these symptoms sooner means help can be sought sooner.
